Seven characters ( Dark Samus, Daisy, Lucina, Chrom, Dark Pit, Richter, and Ken) are not given their own numbers among the roster due to being Echo Fighters they instead have the number of the fighter they are based off of along with an epsilon symbol (ε) or apostrophe ('). Including the DLC characters, there is a total of 24 newcomers. In turn, the development team stated that there would not be many newcomers in the base game, with there being a total of 12 newcomers. All 65 fighters from the previous five games have returned for this installment.
